Fact Sheet
Consorta is a cooperative owned by 11 shareholders and managed
with strong member involvement. Consorta is unique among GPOs
because it is owned by its member systems, and focuses entirely on
supply-chain activities. Therefore, Consorta's sole interest is
reducing healthcare costs for its members and their patients, while
maintaining a high quality of care.
The business and operation of Consorta is vested with its Board
of Directors, which has total responsibility for its governance. The
Board is comprised of one representative from each shareholder, who
is appointed by their individual organization and serves for a
designated term. By nature of their involvement on the Board,
each appointed representative speaks on behalf of a broad set of
organizations at the local level.
Consorta's Supply Chain Committee and its respective
subcommittees and task forces are critical to Consorta's ability to
obtain meaningful clinical input from its shareholders. Because
Consorta utilizes a participative, collaborative decision-making
structure, shareholders have a voice in supplier selection.
Clinical and technical experts from among Consorta's membership
serve on dedicated committees and task forces to review and evaluate
various products and services. Each committee consists of at least
one representative from each shareholder. These committees,
representing a vast number of healthcare areas, are instrumental in
making recommendations of products and services to Consorta's Supply
Chain Committee.
