Cleaning Chemicals

New, less toxic cleaning products are becoming an integral component of a healing environment by reducing stress on the building’s occupants, improving safety, and contributing to improved ecological health.

Hospitals are implementing “green cleaning” in order to promote patient and staff comfort, to promote workers’ health and safety, to reduce environmental damage and to reduce long term health issues.

A successful "green cleaning program" begins with understanding all of the cleaning issues in healthcare and the impacts of continuing cleaning practices that have been based on perceived rather than actual risks. All stakeholders have a voice in the transition to greener cleaners – there are many concerns and most hospital staff react anxiously to suggested changes in cleaning practices.

H2E has developed a 10-Step Guide based on documented evidence and successful hospitals’ experiences. The focus of the Guide is the development of a pilot to implement a comprehensive green cleaning program. Click here to download a PDF of the 10-Step Guide to Green Cleaning Implementation.
