Vaccines are a generally safe and cost-effective way to decrease
morbidity and mortality due to various diseases. Advances in technology
have enabled researchers to create newer, safer vaccines that protect
against an ever broadening range of disease states. This presentation
will cover different types of vaccines as well as different vaccines
that are available on the market today. New vaccines that have been
recently approved will be discussed as well.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the history of vaccines.
- Discuss the different types of vaccines.
- Identify different vaccines that are available on the market.
- Identify various vaccines that we carry at our facility.
- Identify appropriate vaccine doses for pts of different ages.
Presenter
Kim Kendall, PharmD. received a Bachelor of Science in Cell and
Molecular Biology from Texas A&M University in 1995 and her Doctor of
Pharmacy from Purdue University in 2000. She is currently a Level II
Clinical Pharmacist at the Home Hospital Campus of St. Elizabeth
Regional Health in Lafayette, Indiana. At her current position, her
responsibilities range from clinical review of patient’s charts to
individual and group counseling of patients. She is also responsible for
coordinating activities, education and training in preparation of
sterile products for the pharmacy department. In her free time, Kim
enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, stepdaughter and their
pets.
