Managing Dyslipidemia: Focus on ATP III Guidelines
|
Dyslipidemias are a leading risk factor for both cardiovascular
disease and stroke, two of the leading causes of mortality in the United
States. This presentation gives a review of both a drug and non-drug
related treatment of dyslipidemias, as well as risk stratifications and
lipid goals based on the guidelines set forth in the Adult Treatment
Panel III guidelines. A brief outline of current assessment and
treatment guidelines for the treatment of dyslipidemias and adolescents
is also given.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Summarize the ATP III guidelines for hyperlipidemia
management and apply them to patient cases.
- Recognize the recent changes in hyperlipidemia management
guidelines.
- Describe the risk factors and risk equivalents for CHD.
- Know the recommendations for treatment of dyslipidemias in
adolescents/children.
Presenter
Tricia Williams received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue
University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2002. She
served as a clinical pharmacist and pharmacy student preceptor at
Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, Indiana from 2002-2005. She is
currently a staff pharmacist at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in
Lafayette, Indiana.
