Ethics & Compliance
Code of Conduct
Consorta, Inc. is a Group Purchasing Organization (“GPO”) that is
wholly-owned by and operated for the benefit of our Catholic health
care systems, and other members that the shareholder health care
systems permit to participate. Because Consorta is owned by its
member systems, and focuses solely on supply-chain activities, it is
unique among GPOs, and has no interest apart from reducing health
care costs for its members and their patients, while maintaining a
high quality of care.
Consorta is recognized by the United States Internal Revenue
Service (IRS) as a “cooperative.” As such, it has been returning one
hundred percent (100%) of the annual net income of the company to
its shareholder health care systems since inception. Members report
such returns as a reduction of cost of products to the Medicare and
Medicaid Programs.
In April 2007, Consorta became an equity owner in HealthTrust
Purchasing Group, HPG, a GPO based in Brentwood, TN. As a part of
this transaction, HPG is now responsible for the majority of
contracting activity for Consorta. Representatives from Consorta
participate in the HPG contract development process. HPG contracts,
process, procedures, and guidelines are established by the HPG Code
of Conduct. The Consorta Code of Conduct applies to the minimal
contracting activities still performed by Consorta staff.
