Consorta strongly advocates on behalf of its members and the industry. Working with McDermott, Will & Emery, a legislative law firm in Washington, D.C., Consorta has been instrumental in ensuring that the group purchasing Industry addresses concerns through voluntary actions by GPOs rather than legislative or regulatory intervention.

To accomplish this goal, Consorta's executive management have taken a leadership role and are actively involved in developing strategies and key messages for legislators on both of national and local level.

Healthcare Group Purchasing Industry Initiative (HGPII)

Consorta is a founding member of the Healthcare Group Purchasing Industry Initiative (HGPII), an initiative formed in 2005 to promote and monitor best ethical and business practices in purchasing for hospitals and other healthcare providers. The goal of HGPII is to assure ongoing adherence to ethical conduct and business practices, and to hold the confidence of the public and the Government in the integrity of the industry.

Health Industry Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA)

Consorta is a member of The Health Industry Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA), a broad-based trade association that represents 16 healthcare group purchasing organizations. HIGPA works collaboratively with all legislative and regulatory authorities to insure fair and efficient procurement practices in an open and competitive market within the health industry. Darrel Weatherford, Consorta's President & Chief Operating Officer, is the Immediate Past Chair of HIGPA.
